The European Union has committed €4 million ($4.3 million) to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to accelerate the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). This significant funding aims to help 12 partner countries build the capacity to produce and distribute these climate-friendly fuels. 

This initiative, which also involves the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), represents a crucial step toward decarbonizing global aviation. By focusing on capacity-building, the program will provide participating countries with vital resources, including feasibility studies, technical support, and certification assistance. 

The funding aligns with the EU’s broader climate goals, specifically the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, which mandates a phased ramp-up of SAF usage across the bloc. This latest action demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that the global shift to sustainable aviation leaves no country behind.
