Think Beyond Today. Invest in a Sustainable Tomorrow with SAMESG® Reporting
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has announced the launch of two new specialized courses through its GRI Academy, aimed at equipping sustainability professionals with advanced expertise in climate and nature-related corporate reporting. This move responds to the escalating demand for comprehensive and transparent disclosures on environmental impacts.
Launched on July 29, 2025, the new courses are: “Climate Reporting with GRI and IFRS Standards” and “GRI-TNFD Interoperability: A Guide for Nature-Related Reporting.” These additions to the GRI Academy’s offerings are designed to help organizations meet growing demands for transparency as global sustainability challenges intensify.
The climate reporting course follows the recent release of GRI’s updated climate standard, “GRI 102: Climate Change 2025,” which becomes effective on January 1, 2027, with a pilot program before the end of 2025. This standard introduces new disclosure requirements, including reporting on climate change adaptation plans, GHG emissions reduction targets, the use of GHG removals in the value chain, and the application of carbon credits. It also incorporates “just transition” principles, requiring disclosures on impacts to workers, communities, and vulnerable groups affected by climate actions.
The nature-related course builds on GRI’s updated biodiversity standard, “GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024,” and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations published in 2023. GRI and TNFD have collaborated extensively, releasing a joint interoperability mapping resource to help companies streamline reporting on nature-related risks and impacts using both frameworks. The course provides practical guidance on using this tool to align biodiversity disclosures.
These courses are crucial for professionals seeking to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving reporting landscape, ensuring organizations can effectively communicate their climate and nature-related impacts, risks, and opportunities to a broad range of stakeholders.
